Escape of Water / Clean Water Damage Advice
ESCAPE OF WATER/CLEAN WATER DAMAGE
Advice to policyholder
DO
- Turn off water and try to prevent any further damage.
- Mop up as much water as possible. Use a wet/dry vacuum if possible.
- If it is dry outside, open windows and ventilate room as much as possible.
- Be aware and careful of slippery surfaces etc.
- If you have a fan or other source, blow cold air through the room (unless mould/mildew is evident, in which case no method of air circulation should be used). Ensure windows are open before using a fan. Caution-do not use an electric fan or any other equipment on a wet floor.
DO NOT
- Lift or remove carpets or soft furnishings etc outside.
- Apply heat to the carpet in an attempt to dry (this can cause shrinkage and possible structural damage).
- Use any cleaning solutions including bleach, detergents or disinfectants.
- Turn on/use any electrical items that may have been affected by water or condensation.
- Enter a room where standing water is evident if the sockets are submerged.
